In response to these unprecedented economic times, Congress recently passed the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The tax provisions of the Act are designed to provide tax relief for families and businesses, create jobs, and create incentives in alternative energy sources. This presentation will discuss these tax provisions with particular emphasis on new Code provisions, planning opportunities, and the specific choices to be made among competing tax benefits. In addition, this presentation will provide interesting insight into background information regarding the inclusion and rejection of certain tax benefits and the direction of future Code amendments. Presentation Objectives: This 60-90 minute audio discussion will provide participants with a conceptual understanding and practical application of the following: - New credits applicable to individuals/families as well as the expansion and extension of existing credits
- Investment incentives for businesses relating to bonus depreciation, increased expensing, deferral of discharge of indebtedness income, NOLs, and credits for hiring certain workers
- Provisions for new recovery zone bonds and other new tax credit bonds
- Renewable energy incentives including expansion and extension of existing credits
- Targeted higher education benefits

- Identify the particular tax incentives and planning opportunities applicable to their clients
